Course Details

This 1-day load restraint course is relevant for drivers and persons involved in and responsible for the safe and secure loading of vehicles.

  • Legislation;
  • Load restraint;
    • Principles of load restraint;
    • Forces acting on loads;
    • Safe load principles;
    • Restraint methods and performance standards (Tie down and Direct restraint);
    • Vehicle load and unload requirements;
    • Introduction of labelling and requirements for:
      • General freight;
      • Dangerous goods;
      • Oversize loads.

This unit forms part of TLI31612 Certificate III in Driving Operations.

Participants of this course receive a current copy of The National Transport Commission’s Load Restraint Guide.

What to Bring

Strict ID requirements apply for this course.  You will need either:
1 x form of photo ID (Australian Driver’s Licence, or any passport) plus 1 x form of non-photo ID (e.g. Medicare or ATM card);  OR 1 x form of primary non-photo ID that includes your date of birth (e.g. birth certificate), plus 2 x forms of secondary non-photo ID (e.g. Medicare, ATM, or Health Care card)


Participants need to pass a written mandatory assessment (in English) in order to successfully complete this course.

Entry requirements

Participants need to be at least 18 years of age;

Participants must have basic level of English Literacy and Numeracy skills and knowledge to be able to complete written theory assessment and understand spoken instructions in the practical component; and

Must wear suitable work attire and closed shoes to their course (preferably safety boots).


No set expiry however, Industry recommends retraining every 5 years
